I don't know how things go in your house on Sunday mornings, but this can sometimes be the most stressful morning of the week for my family. I have no idea why, but I do have a suspicion that the devil makes sure that he is alive and well in our home on that morning specifically. For some reason, I think he wants to make that morning as difficult as he can so that we can stay away from church. Do you ever have that problem?
As a parent, I know that it is extremely important that we attend church as a family. We have made it a priority in our home that our children be in church on Sundays; Sunday mornings is a "non-negotiable".
I want to encourage you as a parent to make Sunday School AND Worship a priority for your family. In our Nursery, Preschool, and Children's Ministries, we offer Sunday School at 9:00 and 10:15 for all ages. Once children enter first grade, we encourage families to worship together in either Worship East or Worship West for one hour and everyone in the family to attend a Sunday school class for the other hour. What a great experience for your children to see you Worship on Sundays. There is no better example for them than to see you put Worship and growing in Christ as your top priority for the week.
Two of our Children's Sunday School teachers, John and Dale Bass, shared this poem with me recently, and I wanted to pass it along to you. It was written by Strother Sligh, a former coach and teacher at Irmo High School.
IT'S JESUS, DADDY
It's Jesus, Daddy. Let's go see,
He's telling stories just for me,
Of how He loves us, every one,
Just as His Father loves His Son.
He's teaching how we each should pray,
And all the proper words to say,
To love and care for everyone
Until our life on earth is done.
To never steal or tell a lie,
Commanded by our God Most High.
Instead of speaking out, reflect,
Treat both your parents with respect.
Care for your neighbor with concern,
And you'll be cared for in return.
To give is better than receive,
And comfort those who sorely grieve.
To trust in Him and He alone,
And He will claim us for His own.
It's Jesus, Daddy, Let's go see
The King who gave His life for me.
